Kara Williams colorado writerKara Williams is an award-winning freelance writer who has covered topics ranging from business and babies to skiing and spas in her 27-year editorial career. Kara has been employed as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor, proofreader and corporate copyeditor. She’s freelanced since 1999, and in the past few years travel writing has been the main focus of her work. Her beats include family travel, romantic escapes, girlfriend getaways, spas, outdoor adventures and hotel reviews, with an emphasis on vacation spots in North America, Mexico and the Caribbean. That said, in the summer of 2014 she sailed around Europe for 66 days — with her family in tow — as the Communications Coordinator for Semester at Sea.

Kara’s articles have been published in national magazines, regional publications, and local newspapers, as well as online. Kara co-founded The Vacation Gals, which which won Gold for Best Travel Blog in the 2012 Lowell Thomas Award Competition, the most prestigious in travel journalism.

Kara has spoken about social media and blogging at industry events, such as BlogWorld & New Media Expo, Social Media Strategies for Travel, Type-A-Mom Conference and PRSA Travel & Tourism. She has been quoted as a travel expert in newspapers and magazines, such as USA TODAY, Real Simple, The Nest and Connecticut Parent.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Kara makes her home in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains with her husband and two teenage children. One of her current freelance gigs is handling communications for her kids’ high school, which involves maintaining the school’s Facebook page, editing a weekly newsletter and writing all website copy.
